Music Goal Sheets

All students in grades 1st-5th should have a Music Goal Sheet in the Google Sheets app on their iPad or ChromeBook. Kindergarten students will have a goal sheet soon! You can view the goal sheet at any time to see how your child is progressing, help them work on music standards at home, and check out their current grade in music. Each standard has a name (some names are links) and a picture box.

The question mark emoji means that we haven't started working on this skill yet. You will also see an asterisk * next to the description of these standards. If the description is a link, students are welcome to begin work any time they like, but they might want to make sure they have finished all the hourglasses first.

The hourglass signifies current standards. You'll see a tiny one next to the description of the standard as well. Students should work first on these standards so they can master them on time. If the description is blue, it's a link to a practice page for this standard.

Blank picture boxes mean that we have completed whole-class work on the standard, but it hasn't been mastered yet. You'll also see a blank box next to the standard description. Students shouldn't give up on a standard just because it's blank. They can earn the badge for any standard any time!

Other emojis indicate that the standard has been met! You'll also see a green checkmark next to the standard's name. It's time to celebrate with your student!!

If you'd like to view your child's music goal sheet on your own computer or device, simple navigate to the Google Sheets site or app, and use your child's Google username and password to log in.

Check out next week's blog post for detailed instructions on how to access this document on your child's device or your own.

ClassDojo

Printed invitations to connect to our ClassDojo will be coming home this week. (A printing problem prevented me from getting that done last week!) Please consider connecting to this great communication tool! I have a special surprise for the first class with 100% of parents connected. :-)

¡Tocar! Auditions Friday!!

Tocar Auditions Friday

¡Tocar! is an auditioned vocal and instrumental ensemble. Auditions are open to any interested student in 3rd-5th grade, and will be held after school this Friday, September 15th until 4:30 p.m. Rehearsals will begin September 22nd at the same time. There is no audition piece for students to prepare. They will learn one or two short songs during the audition, and sing them with the whole group, in small groups, and one at a time. Students will also be asked to echo back short vocalizations (rhythmic and melodic patterns). Successful members of ¡Tocar! possess the ability to sing tunefully in head tone, sing independent vocal lines as part of a section, quickly learn music and lyrics accurately, practice their music at home daily, and rehearse productively with very few behavior reminders.
